About the Project:

Keystone Architectural Services provided the developer with conceptual color renderings of this building, which the developer used to attract the primary tenant. The 10,000-square-foot, single-story office building is wood-framed with brick veneer, and has a pitched roof. On large wood-framed structures such as this, the roof tends to be visually overpowering. Keystone Architectural carefully designed a series of gables of different sizes to lead the observer's eye from the roof to the main entry. The gabled entrance also allows a spacious two-story, glass-fronted lobby, bringing light into the building through the central corridor.

This corridor and the centrally located toilet room serve three tenants, maximizing the flexibility of the interior space.

About the Project:

Abele Route Nine, the owner of this single-story, wood-framed building with brick veneer, was able to attract Cohoes Savings Bank as the primary tenant by using conceptual color renderings provided by Keystone Architectural Services. In addition to the bank, Abele also required that the building be designed with space for other tenants.

The site for the 9,400-square-foot building was extremely tight, and the owner wanted maximum density for the greatest profit per square foot. With the commitment from Cohoes Savings Bank, Keystone was able to provide tenant fit-up floor plans to the bank at the same time that the building shell drawings were being completed, adjusting the building in a fluid process which resulted in the most efficient use of space. In keeping with the image of a financial institution, Keystone designed a vaulted ceiling for the bank space, in conjunction with flat bottom-chord trusses, used to keep construction economical.

Keystone Architectural also provided tenant fit-up for a geological company occupying 2,000 square feet of the building.

Cohoes Savings Bank is so pleased with the building that they intend to use the same design for their future branch bank buildings.

About the Project:

As part of Keystone Architectural Services' design of the major remodeling project for the Keeler Motor Car Company, an old wood-framed showroom addition was demolished to the ground. To keep the dealership operating during construction, next a 10,000-square-foot service garage and vehicle preparation addition was built. This addition was carpeted and painted, and temporary low walls erected so the space could serve as a temporary BMW showroom. Finally, the new steel-framed showroom and two-lane indoor service write-up area were constructed.

Keystone Architectural's design of the arched entry canopy and two interior barrel vault ceilings structurally echo BMW's logo. Also on the interior, porcelain floor tile with an attractive two-tone border covers the showroom and write-up areas.

The entire project entailed 8,000 square feet of additions and 7,000 square feet of renovations to the Honda dealership and 22,000 square feet of additions and 9,000 square feet of renovations to the BMW dealership. Through this entire complex process of design and construction, Keystone Architectural Services worked closely with Keeler Motor Car to meet the company's shifting staff needs during construction. Keystone also worked with both Keeler and BMW to address their needs and desires, so that all parties were satisfied with the final project.

Complex changes were necessary at the Keeler Motor Car Company, caused by inadequate space and a run-down facility, and complicated by requirements from the Honda Company which had to be met for that franchise. In a project which involved several phases of construction to keep the whole dealership operating at all times, Keystone Architectural Services remodeled Keeler's BMW facility into a new Honda showroom.

The existing showroom for this facility was much too small. The building already encroached on the property's front setback, so Keystone Architectural's solution was to 'push' everything in the building back. A two-lane indoor service write-up area was added for customer convenience, and a large body shop was added to better serve customers.

For the showroom, Keystone Architectural used wasted space above the old ceiling to create a more spacious environment. The drum-shaped entrance with Honda's logo prominently displayed adds excitement to the building. To meet the Honda Company's requirements, Keystone designed a new parapet around the showroom, which added a drifted snow load, exceeding the building's structural capacity. The building's structural steel system was modified to accommodate the increased snow loading.

Keystone Architectural Services worked very closely with both the Keeler Motor Car Company and with Honda to address both the owner's and franchiser's needs and desires, so that both were satisfied with the final project.

Krause's Homemade Candy needed an addition to accommodate storage and production operations, but the Village of Colonie did not want a building that looked like it was obviously light industrial in nature at this prominent location on Central Avenue.

The owners had very definite ideas about how they wanted the structure to look, and a budget which could not be exceeded. Along with the necessity for the addition not to visually overwhelm the original two-story retail facility, and the requirement by the Village of Colonie that the tractor-trailer loading dock be screened from sight, this provided Keystone Architectural Services with design challenges for the project.

Final design of the 8,500-square-foot, single-story wood frame and masonry structure visually extends the retail building without drawing attention away from the main customer entrance. The red roof of the storage area balances the red roof and porch canopy of the retail building, while the whimsical red gable roofs and canopies of the production area provide a look that could have come to life from the 'Candy Land' board game. All of the design adds up to a building which visually advertises its own purpose.

Additionally, William F. Matuszek of Keystone Architectural feels that a key element in speeding up the village planning board's approval process was Keystone's presentation of detailed color renderings of the project at an early point.
